WHAT IS AN EBOOK?
First and foremost, ebooks are regular books. Instead of being printed on paper, however, they are delivered to you as a computer file. This has great advantages - they take up next to no physical space, they're immediately available, they have an adjustable appearance and can have additional navigation features or links to internet resources etc. Being a computer file can also be a disadvantage - you need something to read them on, you also need additional special equipment to read ebooks away from your computer, you have to stare at the computer screen to read them and your ebook library doesn't look as impressive as your collection of paperbacks on your shelf…!
DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL HARDWARE?
You can download free software to allow you to read ebooks in different formats on your PC. Some of the most popular are explained in the next section. If you want to be more mobile when you're reading, however, you'll need to get yourself a handheld alternative. Generally you'll use either a mobile phone or a PDA. There are literally hundreds of different gadgets available, and it's beyond the scope of this help page to provide very much in the way of useful guidance on this subject. WHAT FORMATS ARE AVAILABLE AND WHAT SOFTWARE DO I NEED?

ADOBE
Chances are you already have the Adobe reader installed on your system. This reader enables you to open files in the pdf format.
MOBIPOCKET
This is a popular format used on a wide range of smartphones and PDAs.
MICROSOFT READER
The Reader software enables you to open lit files.
PALM EREADER
This software enables you to open pdb files.
ENCRYPTION
Encryption is a technique used to prevent unauthorised copying, reselling and re-distribution of eBooks. Infected Books books purchased direct from us via Tradebit or Cyberread are free of encryption. Our readers are trusted not to rip us off by circulating unauthorised copies. If you do, you lose out ultimately. David Moody releases his novels independently and at a low price. Releases are funded by the sales of previous books. If no-one buys any books, no new titles get released.
